Wildcat Den State Park is 322-acres of unique natural beauty located three miles east of Fairport, Iowa. The heavily timbered terrain showcases spectacular views of 100-foot cliffs and rock formations. The trails are home to at least 25 varieties of ferns, which includes the polypody, the maidenhair, and walking leaf fern.

For an artist, this place is a visual treasure-trove featuring the pulsating kaleidoscopic effect of colors. How does one transfer this beauty onto one’s canvas?  First, take a short break from the visual, close your eyes, and attune yourself to your remaining senses.

Feel the peaceful solitude surrounding you. Hear the serenade of the water gently trickling down the rocks. Hear the leaves rustling above in the treetops, while the birds rejoice. Breathe nature.

Open your eyes and grasp the whole picture of God’s handiwork.

Oh, the beauty of His handiwork at Wildcat Den State Park!

God is awesome!

Now paint what you feel.

Psalm 19:1

“The heavens declare the glory of God;

And the firmament shows His handiwork.”
