YHWH (YAH or JAH)

God reveals Himself in His names. Yahweh means, “I AM”, which reveals God as being absolutely self-existent. Possessing essential life for all creation, Yahweh is the great “I AM” of Exodus 3: 14:

And God said unto Moses, “I AM THAT I AM.”

“Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, “ ‘I AM’ hath sent me unto you.”

How does Jesus Christ relate to the name of Yahweh? “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. ” John 1:1-2, 14

Jesus Christ was the Word made flesh. In Colossians 2:9 God’s word states that in Jesus Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and that we are complete in Him.

Jesus Christ’s reply to the high priest in Mark 14: 61-62 includes “I AM.”

” Again the high priest asked Him, ‘Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?’

And Jesus said, ‘ I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.’ “

Again Jesus uses “I AM.”  In John 8:58, “Jesus said unto them, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.’ “ Abraham had a beginning, while Jesus Christ is eternal.

Jesus Christ is He of whom Moses spoke of in Deuteronomy 18: 15-18. Jesus Christ, full of compassion and love, is the powerful Intercessor for His people, like Moses was. He speaks face-to-face with God the Father on our behalf. When one realizes the depth and scope of this, it boggles the mind to think how the great “I AM” deeply cares for us. What an awesome thing this is! Praise Yahweh’s name forever!

To the only wise God our Savior,

Be glory and majesty,

Dominion and power,

Both now and forever. Amen.
