When Things Happen

Things happen in life: cancer, then more cancer, tests, and then more tests. Time often becomes a confused jumble as one balances responsibilities, doctors’ appointments, and surgeries. Massive stress tries to evade one’s peace and it probably would, if it weren’t for one thing. I am a God-fearing Christian woman who believes in the power of God’s Word.

God’s Word, in Philippians 4: 6-7, tells us not to worry but to pray unto God. If we do this, God says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Things that happen in life remind me of the story of Peter. Remember that story in Matthew 14?  Darkness and tumultuous winds churning up massive waves surrounded and battered Peter’s ship.

Earlier, Jesus had His disciples sail to the other side of the sea, while He stayed behind to send the multitudes home. In the middle of the night, a horrific storm brew up, tossing that ship to and fro. Jesus walked on the water to them. But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled and afraid, and thought Christ Jesus was a ghost.

But Jesus spoke to them, saying,” Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”

Peter answered, saying, ”If it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.”

And Christ said, “Come.”

When Peter got out of the ship, he didn’t sink! He kept his eyes on Christ and walked on water! But then, a horrible thing happened. Peter turned his gaze on his surroundings: darkness, huge waves, and boisterous winds. Instantly fear gripped his heart and he began to sink within the waves. He cried out to Jesus, ”Lord, save me.” And the Bible says, “Immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him.” And Peter was safe.

Like Peter, when we too are surrounded by storms, all we have to do is look up and pray unto Jesus. “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

His Word says so. Luke 21:28

And I believe it!

I know God’s Word is true.
