Jehovah-Nissi

Jehovah-Nissi means “Jehovah is My Banner.” In Song of Solomon, it is written,
“His banner over me was love.” God is love.1 Banners or flags have lead troops throughout history. Where does God’s banner lead us?

First of all, God’s banner leads us unto salvation. Even though God is love, God still cannot look upon sin. All people sin and need to be redeemed in order to be with God. Praise God that God Himself provided a way. God loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.2 Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is love.
In John 15: 12-13, Jesus Christ says, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus gave His life for all people as an offering and a sacrifice to God.3 However, sadly, not everyone accepts Christ’s sacrifice.

God’s banner leads us unto all truth.4 The world is full of liars who call good evil and evil good.5 Revelation 21: 27 says that no liars shall be able to enter the kingdom of God. The Bible also says that those who do not believe the truth nor receive the love of the truth shall perish.6 But for those who do believe, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.7 “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8: 32

God’s banner leads us to safety. God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Christ might be saved.8 “Sanctify the LORD of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. And He shall be for a sanctuary.” Isaiah 8: 13-14 In the Sanctuary, there is safety.

God’s banner leads us to eternal life. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life” 9 Whosoever believes in Jesus Christ shall not perish but have eternal life.10 Imagine living an everlasting life with God and knowing the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom He hast sent.11 Eternal life is more than an endless existence. It is a personal relationship with God. To follow Christ’s banner means life.

Finally, there is a scene of Jehovah-Nissi in the New Testament so dynamic, so thrilling that there is nothing that can be compared to it. Christ Jesus, riding a white horse, leads the way with His banner held high and flapping in the breeze behind Him. Following Him are the armies of heaven made up of thousands upon thousands of His believers from all nations. Check out Revelation 19: 11-16.

“KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS”

BEHOLD! JEHOVAH-NISSI LEADS!
