God’s name EL ROI means “ God Who Sees”, the sovereign omniscient GOD.
EL ROI sees what is happening here on earth. The land is full of blood and the cities full of perverseness: for mankind says, “The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD sees us not.”1 God knows deceitful men: He sees the wickedness also; will He not then consider it? 2 “For His eyes are upon the ways of man, and He sees all his goings.”3 God does not see as a man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks upon the heart.4
John 1: 9 states that Jesus Christ is this Light.
A few examples are:
John 1: 50-51, an individual seen beforehand
Philip, one of Jesus’ disciples, brought Nathanael to Jesus. Jesus said to Nathanael, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Solitude under a fig tree was a favorite place for a Jew to meditate. Being under the fig tree, Philip must have been praying about the Messiah. Because, after Jesus said this, Nathanael proclaimed, ”You are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Jesus replied, “Because I said I saw you under the fig tree, you believe Me? You shall see greater things than this. Verily, verily, I say unto you, ‘Hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.’ “
Matthew 20: 18-19, sacrifice of the Passover Lamb foreseen
John 13: 38, Peter’s three denials foreseen
At the last supper, Jesus said to Peter, “Wilt thou lay down your life for My sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee,’ The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied Me thrice.’ “
Later in John 18, Peter denies Christ Jesus three times as Jesus had said and had deep remorse afterwards.
Jesus Christ is EL ROI. He is also the Savior. Although the evil of darkness is rapidly increasing, the good news is that whosoever accepts Christ as Savior overcomes the world. He that believes that Jesus is the Son of God overcomes the darkness and its evil. 5
While we wait for Jesus Christ’s Second Coming, there is hope now;
For EL ROI sees and acts on our behalf, as written in II Chronicles 16: 9,
To show Himself strong on the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him.”
