There is an old hymn that sings to my soul. I have kept it guarded in my heart all these years, as one of my cherished treasures. And when I am afraid, the words bring me peace.
The words go like this:
Whenever I get discouraged and sink beneath the way,
About me all is darkness and I scarcely dare to pray.
Amidst the dark and shadows, the sweetest voice ere known,
Saying, “Child, am I not with thee; never to leave thee alone?
No, never alone, no, never alone,
He promised never to leave me
No, never alone.
No, never alone, no, never alone.
He promised never to leave me
No, never alone!
As He lifts our face towards His, He prepares a feast for us in the presence of our enemies. He anoints our head with anointing oil. Our portions run over with goodness. 3
The LORD also says in Deuteronomy 28:13:
“And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail;
and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath;
if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God,
which I command thee this day; to observe and to do them…”
It is as if He places a crown upon one’s head, a hat of blessing and grace. I feel so blest by God and that is why I painted the peacock hat, a symbol of honor and prestige.
You too can experience this. When you feel all alone surrounded with darkness and you scarcely dare to pray, seek the LORD with a humble heart. The LORD will hear you. He will comfort you and lift up your face towards His. He loves you so.
